White Forest: the new documentary produced by CREATES
The Bandia forest was green. A granary and a pharmacy for the people living around it, a paradise for the bees whose honey was known throughout Senegal. Then the mechanical shovels sank their teeth into the earth to extract the limestone. A veil of dust covered everything: the forest turned white.
White Forest, a 13’45 documentary directed by Thomas Grand and Joan Bastide, follows Abdou Seck, a 72-year-old beekeeper and president of the GIE Sen Abeille. Around his hives, which now yield so little honey, the hum of the last bees mingles with the roar of the trucks carrying the stone away.

The film is produced by CREATES (Patrick Bottazzi), in coproduction with MÉLANZÉ (Joan Bastide) and ZIDEOPROD (Thomas Grand), in partnership with the University of Bern. It was made with the support of the AgroVoice and ARTS projects, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, and of the Bey Diiwaan project, funded by the Liechtenstein Development Service.
